Raffles expands into India

A new direction for development in India has been announced by Accor with plans to take its Raffles brand into the sub-continent with two hotels, one in Jaipur and one in Udaipur.

Accor chairman and CEO Sébastien Bazin said the group was expanding its foothold in the luxury segment with a stronger focus on premium brands, adding both new hotels would deliver “a palatial experience in an extraordinary setting”.

In business for more than 130 years, Raffles now has 13 properties across 11 countries. The brand joined the Accor network in 2015 and has undergone a renaissance, with a pipeline that will see the portfolio double in the next few years.

Planned to open in mid-2020, the Raffles Udaipur will be set on a 21-acre private island in Udai Sagar Lake with 101 rooms are surrounded by hill scenery and views of a 400-year-old temple in the background.

The Raffles Jaipur, scheduled to open in 2022, is being built at Kukas in the city of Jaipur as a set of private residences and courtyards next to a larger hotel complex that presently houses the Fairmont Jaipur.
