Fulfilling its promise last year to break the monopoly on direct flights between the UK and Brazil (BTN 3 December 2018), Norwegian yesterday, 31 March, launched its first new non-stop service from Gatwick to Rio de Janeiro.
The airline, which says it aims to offer its passengers the opportunity “to explore Brazil at an affordable price”, is operating one of its new Boeing B787 Dreamliners on the route with Premium and Economy Class cabins.
CEO Bjørn Kjos said the convenient flight schedule would also give customers in both Europe and Brazil opportunities to connect via Norwegian’s short-haul network of European flights while the airline built on its expanding services to South America.
In addition to the flights to Brazil, Norwegian’s new services to Miami International Airport and San Francisco International Airport also launched yesterday, while summer service to Seattle also recommenced.
At Gatwick, Norwegian now offers a network of 14 long-haul flights to 12 US destinations plus two routes to South America - Buenos Aires and Rio. The airline says it serves more destinations in the US non-stop from Gatwick than any other airline.
