Los Angeles - New York in 4hr

A new record for business jet performance was claimed last week with a Bombardier Global 7500 flying from Los Angeles to New York in less than 4hr. Typical time for the journey by a scheduled commercial aircraft is 6hr 30min.

Bombardier said the Global 7500 (below) had “once again proved its unparalleled performance”. The jet left  Los Angeles Van Nuys Airport  at 07:01 local arriving New York Teterboro Airport at 13:55 local, a time of 3hr 54min.

Bombardier officials said the flight beat the previously-held record established by a competing aircraft manufacturer, making the Global 7500 the fastest business jet so far to complete the route.

During the flight, the aircraft reached a top speed of Mach 0.925 and sustained it for more than 2hr, hailed by Bombardier as “demonstrating exceptional speed capabilities, all while providing the smoothest ride”.

Bombardier Business Aircraft president David Coleal said: “The Global 7500 is simply the best business jet on the market today. The latest speed record demonstrates once again it is the undisputed leader in business aviation.”

He noted the aircraft since entering service had also made a record-setting 8,152nmi flight, the longest so far in business aviation.
