Wizz Air A321 new era
The first of a huge new fleet for Wizz Air of new-generation Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft was handed over by the manufacturer to the carrier last week at a ceremony in Hamburg. Wizz is the largest customer worldwide for the two types, with 256 on order.
Receiving the first of the new A321s, Wizz CEO József Váradi said: “Today we approach the beginning of a new era in Wizz Air’s history. We are proud to welcome our first GTF-powered A321neo to our growing fleet.
“It is the first aircraft from the world’s largest single Airbus order and we are convinced the A321neo will be a game-changer aircraft for Wizz as we continue to grow at an industry-leading rate and expand our market reach across and beyond Europe.”
The new aircraft will initially be deployed to Wizz Air’s Budapest base, and is likely to become a regular sight on the Budapest – Luton route. Its first appearance at Luton is scheduled for later this week.
The new generation of Airbus A321neo is powered by two Pratt & Whitney GTF engines. Airbus says it features the widest single-aisle cabin with 239 seats in a single-class configuration and offers airlines maximum flexibility, fuel efficiency and low operating costs.
