United free live TV launch

Just in time for a major year of sport including America’s Super Bowl yesterday, Sunday, United Airlines last week unveiled more than 100 free-to-use channels of live TV free on more than 200 of its Boeing B737s equipped with seatback screens.

In what it called a bid to make “viewing easy gate-to-gate”, the airline is also offering passengers through the United app access to hundreds of films and TV shows available on personal devices, a total of thousands of hours of programming.

Chief customer officer Toby Enqvist said the developments were part of a series of innovations and improvements to be introduced this year and designed “to help build a great experience for all our customers”.

He added: “Offering free entertainment, whether it's on seatback TV or on personal devices, is one example of how we are placing our customers at the heart of what we do and helping them to relax and enjoy their flights.”

United has also made improvements in its entertainment options for passengers with hearing and mobility issues through an ‘Accessible Entertainment’ menu category available on seatback on-demand systems, including offering audio-descriptive or subtitled programmes.
