Turkish Airlines new routes

New services to London and Mexico are part of a route expansion at Turkish Airlines coming in following the full opening of the Istanbul New Airport (see this issue).

The Gatwick London service, starting in April, will be the first direct flight between London and Antalya.

The airline’s general manager in London, Celal Baykal, said the non-stop route would operate twice a week on Thursdays and Saturdays and was in response to an increase in passenger numbers looking to travel to the destination.

Further afield, Turkish Airlines will launch its inaugural flight to Mexico on 21 August, with a triangle route between Istanbul, Mexico City and Cancun. The service will operate three times a week using the carrier’s new Boeing B787-9 aircraft with a new Business Class.

Chief marketing officer Ahmet Olmuştur said: “As the flag carrier of Turkey, we are continuously looking to expand our network in order to present our quality-focused and service-centric concept to new destinations.

“Mexico is a country that has been on our radar for some time, and this new route marks a very exciting milestone for us.”
