Delta-Virgin engine partnership

A Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine operated by Delta Air Lines' joint venture partner Virgin Atlantic has returned to service following a repair visit in Delta's new state-of-the-art engine repair facility.

The engine was the first to be inducted late last year into the new Delta TechOps shop, with employees working to repair the intermediate pressure compressor.

Delta says the facility will continue to be developed this year to help support Rolls-Royce engine checks and will also be expanding its capabilities to include the Trent 7000.

The airline says the shop enables Delta to perform maintenance on the most sophisticated engines, in particular the next-generation powerplants featured on Delta's Airbus A350s and forthcoming A330-900neo aircraft.

Virgin Atlantic and Delta started their partnership in 2014 and operate what they say is the leading transatlantic network between the UK and US. Through the joint venture, the carriers together flew more than 5m passengers last year.

Delta TechOps, which the airline says is the largest aviation maintenance group in North America, has a workforce of more than 10,000 providing full-service maintenance to more than 850 Delta aircraft and their engines.

The facility also offers maintenance services to more than 150 other operators, cargo operators, the military and government through Delta’s Maintenance Repair and Overhaul business.
