First for electric airport shuttle

A new start-up company is setting out to help the environment by changing the way people reach airports. The company, Driven, is offering zero-emission travel by car with what it claims is the first all-electric airport shuttle in the UK and Europe.

The company cites Civil Aviation Authority data showing some 139m passengers a year travel by private car, taxi, minicab or Uber to the UK’s 11 major airports, most in non zero-emission cars, causing harmful impact to local environments.

Driven is offering 24/7 door-to-door service to the major UK airports using seven-seat Tesla Model X SUVs with drivers who are all fully employed former members of the emergency services with advanced driving qualifications.

Clients are offered exclusive use of the car or through Driven’s new booking technology can match the journey with other passengers who live or work nearby and are flying at a similar time. A travel management app enables companies to book trips and track activity and cost.

The company says advance booking, for example at the same time passengers book their flights, means a 40min trip can cost from £9 per person.
