The award-winning design hotel Mondrian London on the South Bank has been officially renamed Sea Containers London in homage to the history of the iconic building in which it sits.
The new name is also designed to mark the independent status of the property, which is now managed by Lore Group, an international hospitality company operating in Europe and the US, taking over the management from sbe.
Sea Containers London will continue to house the riverside Sea Containers Restaurant and the award-winning Dandelyan bar and also offers a rooftop bar, 12th Knot (formally Rumpus Room), featuring an outdoor terrace overlooking the Thames.
The original Tom Dixon design of the hotel is staying largely the same, but a series of interior updates are planned to build on the existing structure.
Other plans include a fresh identity and branding plus new staff uniforms to acknowledge the golden age of transatlantic travel mixed with the contemporary street style of the South Bank.
Materials will feature classic images with pop art-style illustrations that reflect the nautical history of the building and the transatlantic design of the interiors.
