Delta increases A220 orders

Fifteen more Airbus A220s, formerly the Bombardier C Series, have been added by Delta Air Lines to its initial order with Airbus for 75 of the state-of-the-art aircraft.

Delta says its future A220 fleet will now consist of 40 of the Dash-100 series and the remaining 50 will be the larger Dash-300 variant. The airline is expecting to take its first delivery of the A220-300 in 2020.

Delta COO Gil West said: "These additional A220 aircraft will continue to enable Delta to refresh the fleet, drive further advances in the customer experience and serve as an excellent investment for passengers, staff and shareholders into the next decade.

Delta expects all 90 A220 aircraft to be delivered by the end of 2023. The Dash-300 models will be configured with 130 seats and offer First Class, Delta Comfort+ and main cabin options for customers.

The 108- to 133-seat A220-100, formerly the CS100, first flew in September 2013 and entered service in July 2016 with the former Swiss Global Air Lines.

The 130 to 160-seat A220-300, formerly the CS300, which seats 130-160 passengers, had its maiden flight in February 2015, received an initial type certification in July 2016 and entered service with launch customer airBaltic on 14 December 2016.
