After a year of PR disasters, Ryanair has finished bottom of the Which? Travel annual airline survey for the sixth consecutive year. The carrier suffered low ratings for boarding, seat comfort, food and drink, and cabin environment.
With its “confusing” baggage policy and “hidden costs” also under fire, Ryanair was left at 19th of 19 carriers in the short-haul survey and a “dismal” overall customer score of 40%. Easyjet came 11th in the short-haul survey, managing to beat even BA (15th).
Ryanair responded by denying it had experienced significant problems in the 2018 strikes, arguing 90% of schedules remained operational on strike days. It also said it delivered industry-leading customer service and claimed its bag policy had now been simplified.
On the BA front, a regular passenger who declined to give a name, said it was the airline’s own fault its short-haul operation gained a poor rating. He said: “I use London City Airport and Cityflyer and it is even better than SWISS in Economy. Unlike at Heathrow, there is a proper cabin service, but most people just think of it as BA. It’s all very confusing.”
