A new link for business travellers between the north of England and the capital of Bavaria opens on 8 April when flybmi begins daily service between Leeds Bradford Airport and Munich.
As well as being a key business destination, Munich, the home of Oktoberfest, is also a cultural hot spot and a convenient gateway to the Alps, meaning the route is likely to be popular as a short-break destination with leisure passengers as well as corporate travellers.
Flybmi managing director Jochen Schnadt said: “As part of our on-going strategy to link key business hubs throughout Europe, it was a natural choice to connect the west Yorkshire region via the Leeds Bradford hub to Germany’s third largest city.”
The airline was also hoping “in time” to expand its operations further to include additional services from Leeds Bradford, he added.
Leeds Bradford Airport chief executive David Laws also welcomed flybmi’s “exciting announcement” of the service, adding: “Munich is a leading European city and a fantastic addition to our flight programme for Yorkshire travellers from their local airport.”
