Five-star upgrade at NEC

Following its successful opening in 2015, the Genting Hotel NEC is now having a makeover.

It is the only 5-star property in the complex, which includes the 16,000-capacity Resorts World Arena, host for the recent BBC Sports Personality of the Year line-up and a whole list of top international star concerts.

The hotel boasts 182 rooms and on the top floor eight private deluxe suites together with a multi-purpose conference facility for up to 400. The spa comprises a 15m pool, sauna, salt cave, hot tub terrace, heated loungers and a well-equipped gym.

Opening on Thursday (10 January), Sky by the Waters merges the former Sky Bar and current Waters’ Restaurant on the fifth floor, creating a new social dining and drinking experience with stunning views. Breakfast will also be taken in these comfortable surroundings. The 30-person capacity Apartment meetings and events facility has been added on the first floor with a similar size Penthouse on the hotel’s fifth floor.

The hotel is within the Resorts World complex with about 50 retail outlets and an 11-screen Imax cinema.

Genting is a large Malaysian-owned corporation with a market capitalisation of around $40bn, which also owns Crystal Cruise lines. It is building the world’s largest hotel in Las Vegas, due to open in 2021 with 6,200 rooms.
