Gatwick poll 'backs expansion'

Results of a poll of residents in West Sussex about expansion at Gatwick are expected to be published today, 3 December, with reports suggesting overall approval for the airport’s master plan for a three-runway solution.

It follows the release two months ago by the airport of its latest draft master plan for future growth (BTN 15 October). This confirmed Gatwick was looking at bringing its existing standby runway into routine use as one of three options being considered.

Also under consideration, the report said, was using new technology to increase capacity of the main runway, while a third option was to continue to safeguard land for an additional runway sometime in the future.

The airport launched a 12-week public consultation to gather feedback and views on the plan. The consultation is live until 17:00hr on 10 January 2019, with Gatwick officials saying all responses will be reviewed before a final version of the plan is agreed.
