New concourse for LaGuardia

A new concourse marking completion of the first step in the refurbishment of Terminal B at New York’s La Guardia Airport (LGA) went into use on Saturday with flights by American Airlines.

The carrier has operated exclusively from the terminal since December 2017 and is a partner in the $5.1bn terminal transformation programme, which is scheduled for completion in 2022.

Vice-president of government and airport affairs Michael Minerva said: “This is an important step in the evolution of LaGuardia. We’re investing back into our business in partnership with the Port Authority and LaGuardia Gateway Partners, making LaGuardia a more modern, enjoyable, customer-friendly gateway to the Big Apple.”

The new concourse has been praised for its extensive use of world-class technology, innovation, best-in-class amenities and services, including major brand names, and provides a preview of what the new Terminal B will offer when complete.

Two more new concourses featuring 35 gates will be built at the terminal over the next few years, connected to the main terminal by dual pedestrian bridges spanning an active taxiway, allowing customers and aircraft to move about seamlessly.
