A code-share agreement with Taiwan’s Eva Air, a new aircraft joining its Airbus fleet and a new hip-hop-themed inflight safety video have been announced by Air New Zealand (ANZ).
The code-share deal is designed to expand the two Star Alliance member airlines' networks in northeast Asia and Oceania, with one part giving ANZ passengers access to Eva Air destinations in Japan and South Korea.
From the ANZ perspective, passengers will also have code-share options from Taipei to Auckland and onward to major cities in New Zealand, as well as Brisbane to Auckland and Christchurch, with flights operated by Air New Zealand.
Meanwhile, ANZ has become a new operator of the A321neo, following the delivery of the first of 20 A320neo family aircraft that will initially add capacity on the carrier’s trans-Tasman and Pacific Island routes and at a later stage on domestic services.
The latest delivery consolidates ANZ’s position as an important operator of the Airbus family. The airline has 30 A320ceo currently in service on its local and regional networks.
The new ANZ home-grown safety video, It’s Kiwi Safety, is the latest in a series of quirky examples and is backed by the soundtrack It’s Kiwi, a remake of the popular RUN-DMC song “It’s Tricky” and “In the Neighbourhood” by Sisters Underground.
It is the most ambitious safety video the airline has produced, with a 600-strong cast led by Kiwi actor Julian Dennison and cabin crew, pilots, engineers, loaders and airline staff from Dunedin Airport.
