A doubling of its flights from Edinburgh next summer with a new service to Boston was announced by Delta Air Lines last week, effective from 24 May and complementing the existing daily service to New York-JFK.
Delta said the seasonal Boston upgrade, operated in conjunction with joint-venture partner Virgin Atlantic, would offer customers more travel options from Edinburgh to the US with two flights every day during the peak summer months.
The US carrier has scheduled a 163-seat Boeing B757-200ER between Edinburgh and Boston with 16 fully flat-bed seats in the Delta One (Business Class) cabin, in-seat entertainment for every passenger, wi-fi access and free mobile messaging.
Edinburgh Airport chief executive Gordon Dewar said: “North America has been one of our biggest growth markets and there has been exceptional demand for those services this summer.
“To add Boston with Delta is fantastic news for the airport and passengers as we seek to satisfy that demand. More choice for passengers and growing Scotland’s connectivity to the world are key themes in our strategy for the airport.”
The new route means Delta and Virgin Atlantic jointly over their shared network will offer up to 25 weekly flights from Scotland to the US next summer, a 25% capacity increase over this year.
