Istanbul Ritz blossoms again

Results of a multi-million pound refurbishment have gone on show at the Ritz-Carlton Istanbul as the city welcomes a range of trendy new hotels, galleries and flights ahead of the planned 29 October opening of its record-breaking new airport.

The Ritz-Carlton project has seen the renovation of all 243 rooms and 43 suites plus the banqueting spaces to a design which sets out to reflect the heritage of the Ottoman Empire.

General manager Nicolas Kipper said: “Our mission for this important project was to embrace the heritage of the city and marry it with a contemporary spirit to create a beautiful combination of the East and West influences that are found in Istanbul.”

Portuguese designer Patricia Pina undertook the interior design of the guestrooms and suites, while the meeting spaces were re-imagined by Turkish architect, Hakan Yürüoğlu.

Rooms and suites feature shades of gold and copper combined with layers of colours and wall panels displaying examples of cobalt Anatolian ceramic and luxury velvet and silk fabrics on headboards.

Meeting facilities have also been upgraded to affirm the hotel's reputation as a venue for top events and wedding celebrations. The most significant change is in the Ballroom, with staggered wall panelling to reflect the waters of the Bosphorus.
