A new app feature allowing passengers to book flights instantly using just Instagram photos has been launched by easyJet as the airline puts on sale hundreds of thousands of flights across Europe for next summer.
The technology development, Look&Book, claimed to be a first for the travel industry, allows potential passengers browsing the Instagram photo-sharing site to take screengrabs of photographs they see and then share with, or upload to, the easyJet app.
The system, from creative agency VCCP in partnership with Travelport Digital, uses image-recognition techniques to identify the location, suggest the nearest airport and enters the details on the booking form.
Travelport vice-president Cormac Reilly said: “This new feature unites mobile technology with social media, two areas playing an increasingly significant role in shaping the traveller experience, to deliver an inspiring new way to book travel.”
Meanwhile, easyJet’s timetable for next summer for the period 24 June – 1 September 2019 covers more than 128,000 flights and provides more than 22m seats for passengers.
UK director Sophie Dekkers said: “We have more destinations than ever to choose from and passengers travelling for business can also take advantage of our regular and convenient flight times to major city airports across our network.”

It would be wonderful if we, the passengers, could speak to a person to confirm that we had pressed all the right buttons.
