Newquay lands SAS link

Twice-weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays between Cornwall Airport Newquay (NQY) and Copenhagen (CPH) are to be launched next summer by Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) using 90-seat CRJ900s, with multiple onward connections to Europe and beyond.

SAS, a Star Alliance member, plans to start the seasonal service on 28 June, marking the first time Cornwall’s gateway has been connected directly with Scandinavia.

The flights, which will generate an additional 2,880 seats from NQY, open up access for passengers to connect to a network of more than 70 onward destinations in Europe, Asia and North America via seamless transfer in Copenhagen.

Managing director Al Titterington said: “This is brilliant news for the airport and Cornwall and beyond. Adding to our confirmed direct European services to Alicante, Cork, Dublin, Düsseldorf, Faro and Stuttgart next summer, Copenhagen is sure to prove just as popular."

SAS will become the sixth airline to offer scheduled flights from Newquay, joining a list that includes Aer Lingus, Eurowings, Flybe, Isle of Scilly Skybus and Ryanair.

NQY becomes the sixth UK airport, and the only one in the South West, to be served by SAS, Europe’s ninth largest airline, after Aberdeen, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Heathrow and Manchester.
