Academy unveils new interiors

New London boutique property The Academy, the latest addition to the YTL Hotels UK portfolio, has unveiled details of its multi-million-pound interior redesign by the New York company Champalimaud.

Located in Bloomsbury, the property consists of five Georgian townhouses with an interior inspired by the Bloomsbury Set who lived and worked in this part of the capital in the early 20th century.

Champalimaud, which also worked on YTL’s first British hotel, the Gainsborough Bath Spa, says it has created a space recognising the “style and exuberance” of the Bloomsbury Set while also drawing on inspiration from modern-day London.

The 50 guestrooms have been designed to celebrate 240 years of the Georgian hotel’s history, with high ceilings and sash windows and en-suite marble bathrooms and high king-sized beds to add to the luxury.

Accommodation choices include the Bloomsbury Suites, which encompass a generous living space; the Bloomsbury Double: the Townhouse Twin room and the Townhouse Single for solo travellers.

The Academy is part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World collection, and is close to the British Library and many of London’s fine-dining restaurants and designer boutiques. Rates are from £300 a night.
