Qatar Air adds Mombasa

A second Kenya destination is joining the Qatar Airways network from 11 December with a four-times-weekly direct service to the country’s second city, Mombasa, in addition to the airline's existing flights to Nairobi.

The new route will be operated by Airbus A320, with 12 seats in Business Class and 120 in Economy and  a flight time of just over 6hr.

Qatar group chief executive Akbar Al Baker, said: “This second new route to Kenya, in addition to our existing three daily services to the capital Nairobi, demonstrates our ongoing commitment to expand our reach with ambitious new routes worldwide.”

As part of its expansion, Qatar Airways, which started flying to Nairobi in November 2005, says it plans several other new destinations throughout 2018/19, including Gothenburg, Da Nang, Tallinn and Valletta.

The carrier was named as having the world’s best Business Class by the 2018 World Airline Awards, managed by international air transport rating organisation Skytrax. It was also named best airline in the Middle East and won awards for best Business Class seat and world’s best First Class airline lounge.
