Stansted – St Petersburg

Russian low-cost carrier Pobeda Airlines, part of the Aeroflot Group, is launching direct service to St Petersburg from Stansted on 12 October, serving Russia’s second largest city four times a week by Boeing B737-800 NG.

The airline, founded in 2014, currently has a fleet of 22 aircraft with a further two Boeing 737-800s on order, and served nearly 5m passengers in 2017 across 85 destinations in Europe, Russia and beyond.

St Petersburg, one of the host venues for this summer’s World Cup, is an important business destination as well as home to cultural gems such as the historic centre – a Unesco Word Heritage Site – and one of the world’s largest art museums.

Stansted chief commercial officer Aboudy Nasser said: “This exciting new service will provide cost-effective and convenient direct access to St Petersburg from Stansted for the first time.

“It will be well received by business passengers from our area looking to access this important city and also prove very popular with anyone eager to explore its world-renowned culture and history.”

• Readers are reminded obtaining a visa for Russia can be a complicated and expensive business and should be done in plenty of time (See ON TOUR, BTN 3 September).
