Aeroflot SSJ100 bonanza

A 50th Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) arrived last week at Aeroflot to complete two separate delivery contracts with the manufacturer.

Named after the Russian artist Vasily Polenov, it flew for the first time on Wednesday between Moscow, Sochi and Simferopol.

The airline earlier last month signed what director-general Vitaly Saveliev described as an “unprecedented agreement for the delivery of another 100 aircraft of this type”, leading to an all-Russian fleet of 200 which will include 50 new MC-21s also on order.

The MCs will enter service following its current testing and development programme, while Aeroflot will receive its next 100 SSJ100s between 2019 and 2026. It flies the jet in a two-class layout, with 12 seats in Business Class and 75 in Economy.

Yury Slyusar, president of the United Aircraft Corporation, which owns Sukhoi, said: “As the launch customer and owner of the largest SSJ100 fleet, Aeroflot had great impact on the project.

“The fulfilment of another contract is a great milestone for the programme. while additional agreements for the delivery of the MC-21 open new and interesting opportunities for collaboration.”
