LEEDS BRADFORD AIRPORT (LBA) has unveiled an ambitious scheme to attract an American airline to offer a daily scheduled service to New York by the middle of the next decade. This would allow a wide range of onward connections to cities throughout North America including the West Coast, Florida, Canada and the Caribbean. LBA says that 750 US companies are located in Yorkshire and the service would facilitate further growth. The United States is Yorkshire’s largest international trading partner. Over 2,000 companies in the region trade with the US and export £2bn, 15% of the region’s global trade. American visitors to Yorkshire numbered 125,000 in 2007, with an estimated spend of £40m. This figure would increase dramatically with direct flights. www.leedsbradfordairport.co.uk
