A big expansion of North America services is promised by Aer Lingus next year with the arrival of new long-haul narrowbody aircraft. Dublin – Montreal is set to start on 8 August as the first route, using the new Airbus A321neo(LR), leased from Air Lease Corporation.
The airline says other routes are being planned as part of the introduction early in 2019 of a refreshed brand and the start of a three-year process of repainting the fleet and introduction of new uniforms.
Details of the changes were given at the Airline Passenger Experience Association annual expo in Boston by chief executive Stephen Kavanagh, who noted the Aer Lingus current livery and uniform had been in service for nearly 25 years.
“Our business has changed and we have to take the opportunity to modernise our brand," he added, saying the company planned to roll out the new brand in January and within the first quarter of 2019 also begin offering Economy passengers free drinks and limited free wi-fi access.
Kavanagh said Aer Lingus has orders for eight of the A321s, with deliveries scheduled to begin in April 2019. "The range capability of this aircraft is uniquely suited to Aer Lingus, with much of the market opportunity in North America capable of being served," he noted.
