AND FINALLY: Royal wings

In case you missed the headline, here it is: Used jet for sale. One previous royal owner.

The Qatar royal family’s private jet, a Boeing B747-8 is for sale for a reported £500m, probably negotiable.

Reports last week said the customised jumbo is less an aircraft and more a flying palace, with interiors dressed in a regal blue, ivory and gold colour scheme, several lounges spread over two floors and a bedroom suite.

When Boeing built the aircraft it was intended to carry 467 passengers, but many of the seats have given way to luxury.  Controller, the auction house involved, lists the capacity as a maximum of 76 passengers and 18 crew.

The auction listing says it has flown only 403.2hr - almost new by commercial airline standards, given the average passenger aircraft has a lifespan of 165,000hr.

We’re tempted, but BTN will not be bidding.
