A new deal on inflight catering has allowed Air New Zealand to announce it has achieved the impossible.
The linkup is with food technology start-up company Impossible Foods, based in Silicon Valley.
It means the airline is the first in the world to serve an award-winning plant-based item called the Impossible Burger, which is now available as part of its Business Premier menu on flights from Los Angeles to Auckland.
Impossible Burger’s magic ingredient is an iron-containing molecule called heme which comes from the roots of soy plants and is the same as the heme found in animal meat.
The result, the partners say, is a plant-based burger patty that cooks, smells and tastes like beef but contains no animal products whatsoever.
Can’t wait.
