VLM arrives at Cologne

This year’s summer network at Cologne Bonn Airport was further strengthened last week with the arrival of Belgian regional operator VLM Airlines starting new routes to Rostock in Germany and Antwerp in Belgium using the 50-seat Fokker 50.

Airport president and CEO Johan Vanneste said: “We are pleased not only to be able to offer passengers two new and attractive short-haul destinations with VLM, but also to welcome a new airline to our schedules.”

Neither service faces direct competition, with Rostock becoming Cologne Bonn’s eighth domestic connection to join established links to Berlin Tegel, Berlin Schönefeld, Munich, Hamburg, Dresden, Leipzig/Halle and Sylt. Antwerp will be the only service to Belgium from the airport.

The five-times-weekly services will see an extra 1,000 seats a week added to Cologne Bonn’s capacity throughout this summer.  VLM Airlines started operations in May 1993 with a scheduled service between its original hub at Antwerp and London City Airport. The airline later switched its hub to London City but returned to Antwerp in 2014 after a management buy-out.
