Delegates at last week’s Multimodal cargo conference in Birmingham were given a novel insight into Britain’s trade with overseas thanks to the first mobile Heathrow Export Café.
Attendees were intrigued to be treated over the three days of the gathering to Scottish shortbread and smoked salmon, Welsh jam, Cornish tea and drinks from Northern Ireland, all examples of the most popular British food items exported from the airport.
One official explained: “New Heathrow cargo data reveals there are some surprising destinations British food staples fly to. This was a way of highlighting the role the airport plays as the country’s biggest port by value, supporting the international growth of SMEs up and down the country.”
