With connections between the new Crossrail and London City Airport still under debate (BTN 19 March), São Paulo in Brazil is joining the growing list of destinations opening such links to ease travel for passengers.
São Paulo Metro Line 13 has begun daily test operations between 10:00 and 15:00 following a month-long “assisted operations” schedule on Saturdays and Sundays only. ã
During the four test weekends, Line 13 carried almost 120,000 people, most on special tours to learn about the route and its integration with Guarulhos International Airport (GRU).
The operating company says it is looking to complete all the tests this month and make the necessary adjustments for the beginning of commercial operations scheduled for June, when the trains will run from 04:00 to midnight.
Line 13, known as the Jade Line, is the first rail link with the Guarulhos region and a new transport connection to access the international airport.
With a total length of 12.2km, it has three stations: Aeroporto-Guarulhos, Guarulhos-Cecap (new) and Engineer Goulart (rebuilt), which integrates with Line 12, known as Sapira (Brás-Calmon Viana), in the city of São Paulo.
