Heathrow on camera

Viewers are being invited behind the scenes at Heathrow over the next five weeks after the ITV series Heathrow: Britain’s Busiest Airport (HBBA) began its fourth season last week.

The series looks into the lives of the airport staff responsible for moving more than 200,000 passengers and an average 5,000 tonnes of cargo through the airport every day.

The programme notes operating the airport at close to capacity is no easy feat for the 76,500 people who work there. This year, it took a 14-strong crew and 1,200 coffees to get through more than 500 hours of filming.

The shoot lasted three months, producing 3hr of programming designed to show UK audiences in six episodes exactly how it’s done. Arrivals, departures and the airfield are all featured, plus the unexpected calls to duty that mean no day is the same.

Heathrow chief executive John Holland-Kaye said: “Returning for a fourth series, Heathrow: Britain’s Busiest Airport is a project that encapsulates our dedicated network of colleagues who work around the clock to deliver a world-class service.

“The documentary gives millions of people a glimpse into the operations of one of the world’s busiest airports and I can tell you from experience, there is never a dull moment.”
