Indigo set for Gibraltar

A former office block is set to become one of Gibraltar’s top hotels with the InterContinental group signing up with property developer Roquebrook to bring its boutique Indigo brand to the British Overseas Territory.

Close to the Old Town and a 5min drive from Gibraltar International Airport, the 120-room hotel will have views toward Spain and the historic Northern Defences. Features will include a new facade and rooftop extension, gym and restaurant and bar.

IHG regional associate vice-president Hylko Versteeg said: “Just as no two places are alike, no two Hotel Indigo properties are the same. The design of each draws inspiration from local surroundings, meaning each is unique in look and feel.”

He added: “We’re delighted to be opening our first IHG hotel with Roquebrook in Gibraltar, which we recognise is becoming an increasingly popular destination for leisure as well as business leisure travellers.”

Roquebrook head of business development James Gonzalez said: “As specialists in hotel development, we felt the Hotel Indigo brand was the best option for the location. We are confident this will be an excellent addition.”

There are currently 24 Hotel Indigo properties with a total of 2,182 rooms across Europe and 20 more with 2,353 rooms in the development pipeline.
