Marriott loyalty reshuffle

Three loyalty programmes covering 29 hotel brands worldwide with 6,500 properties in 127 countries and territories are being combined under a new initiative by the Marriott International group.

The change, being introduced in August, will cover the Marriott Rewards, Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) schemes and create a programme in which Marriott says members will earn on average 20% more points than before.

Senior vice-president of global loyalty David Flueck said of the move: “We listened to the travel aspirations of our members and set our sights on unlocking the full potential of the programmes.”

The three programme names will continue until a new name for the complete portfolio is introduced in 2019. Also beginning in August, travellers will be able to book stays across all programmes on the respective websites or apps.

As an example of the new benefits, earning Silver elite status after just ten nights and Gold elite status after just 25 nights will become standard in all three programmes.

Marriott is also expanding the Moments experiential platform, with more than 110,000 entries covering 1,000 destinations from attraction tickets and tours that can be bought for cash to one-off events available only to members using points.
