New-style seats for KLM

New-generation lighter Business Class seats to reduce fuel consumption have been ordered by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines for its Boeing B787-10 fleet due to start entering service in June next year.

The airline has become the first customer for the new Venture seat from the Jamco Group of Japan which as well as lightweight construction also features a fishbone configuration for more effective utilisation of the available space.

KLM executive vice-president for customer experience Boet Kreiken noted the airline, as European launch customer for the Dash-10, had eight of the aircraft on order and was committed to offering the best possible travel environment for Business Class passengers.

He added: “This is exemplified by Jamco’s Venture seats, which offer passengers direct aisle access and greater personal space and comfort, with full-flat recline and an 18.5in entertainment screen.

“Another new feature is an armrest ‘Do not disturb’ button which passengers can turn on and off at will while middle seats have a movable partition, allowing passengers to opt for maximum privacy or for an optimum shared travel experience."

There will be 38 World Business Class seats aboard the new aircraft, all KLM-branded and based on a design created in cooperation with Hella Jongerius.
