COMMENT: BTN distribution and the publication’s future?

Just like probably every other business in the UK we are concerned with the implication of GDPR from 25 May. Nothing to do with Public Relations, but an acronym for the General Data Protection Regulation.

As a newsletter, the only information we store is our readers’ email addresses, plus, where advised (purely voluntarily), the name, company name, web address, position with company, business type and country of residence.

Readers can unsubscribe at any time and this mailing list is used only for the BTN distribution on a Monday morning.

We ask you to ensure newsletter@btnews.co.uk is on your contact/approved list to ensure it is not blocked. This is very important as IT (internal or external) has a habit of introducing security precautions without telling staff.

When BTN is suddenly not received, readers think it is no longer being sent. We’ve never missed an issue. If it does not come through, subscribe on our website again. If it is still blocked, talk to your IT people.

Please pass on this information to your friends and colleagues who may have found themselves not getting BTN, or might find it of real interest – we carry 20 stories every week, COMMENT, a feature piece, and the very popular AND FINALLY.

The website updates at midnight on Sunday UK time. The archive is a fine research source and we feature monthly motoring and cruising.

Just as a reminder, BTN was established originally nearly 30 years ago as Air & Business Travel News, a printed bi-weekly travel-trade newspaper, evolved as an on-line publication in 1997 and rebranded in 2012 from AERBT. It is the first read for many on a Monday morning and an award winner.

Some readers might have newsletter@aerbt.co.uk on their contact list, which should be updated to newsletter@btnews.co.uk

BTN is presently independent, but who knows what the future holds, with editor-in-chief Malcolm Ginsberg (75) considering options. It is a true “influencer” and strives to bring you an interesting news update every Monday morning.

Our view is that readers, whether they be travellers in business or leisure, in the travel trade, working or retired, or just interested in the world at large, do not wish to be pestered by social media and would prefer a short and concise review of what is happening in the world of (mostly aviation) travel on a weekly basis. That’s BTN.

It's just another example of overreach by the EU. While I wasn't in favor of Brexit, this is the sort of thing that makes me support it.
