The keyless hotel

Tech-minded travellers heading for Budapest can now book and pay for a room, check-in, open the door and order extra services remotely with the opening of the first 4-star hotel in Europe controlled by guests' smartphones.

The property is called KViHotel, with the name derived from “Key Vision”, and operates with a skeleton staff, with guests using the TMRW Hotels app to control almost all functions.

Visitors have only to sign up and create an account, search for the desired time and date for their trip, book the room they want and start packing. On arrival, the smartphone becomes the room key and also opens the main doors for latecomers.

Using the app, guests are also in control of the cooling and heating among other things and can set the desired temperature of the room for their arrival time, even from thousands of miles away.

Additional cleaning can also be requested and “Please don’t disturb” signs can be put out virtually. Guests can pay through the app, order a taxi, monitor the payment process and can check out with their phones, with no queuing necessary.
