Virgin's Johannesburg double

A second daily service between Heathrow and Johannesburg is being added by Virgin Atlantic this winter with flights scheduled to start on 28 October operated by Boeing B787-9 Dreamliner. The new flight will add 180,000 seats on the route.

The airline is making a pitch to business travellers and passengers with onward connections to the rest of Africa by noting the new service is timed to be the first flight from Heathrow to land at Johannesburg each day.

In the other direction, the schedule has been timed to offer easy connections in London to flights with Virgin Atlantic and Delta Air Lines to more than 200 US destinations, including Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Chief commercial officer Shai Weiss said: "Virgin Atlantic has been proud to serve South Africa for over 20 years. Johannesburg is one of the most popular destinations on our network, so we're delighted to add a second daily service."

Heathrow chief executive John Holland-Kaye added: “We’re delighted to see Virgin Atlantic add another daily service to Johannesburg from Heathrow – strengthening Britain’s connections with one of Africa’s most important markets and boosting choice for our passengers.”
