Berryman's Emirates farewell

The UK aviation scene is losing a leading personality at the end of this month with the retirement of Emirates Airlines’ top man in the country, Laurie Berryman. He joined in 1990 as an area manager and was appointed vice-president Emirates UK in 2010.

Hubert Frach, the airline’s divisional senior vice-president, Commercial Operations West, said: “We want to thank Laurie for his amazing contribution and commitment to our business, and wish him the very best for his retirement."

Berryman, who is being replaced by Richard Dewsbury (BTN last week), said: “It’s been a fantastic journey over nearly three decades, during which time I was part of Emirates’ growth to become the multi-award-winning and largest international airline.

“It’s been a wonderful experience and I want to thank Emirates and my team in the UK for all their support”.

One of Berryman’s last official duties was to welcome Emirates’ two millionth passenger in Newcastle, when he said: “Our greatest pride as an airline is our ability to connect people, places and economies and this remains our guiding principle.

“I look forward to seeing what the next decade brings for Newcastle and the wider North East of England as its position as a tourism and trade hotspot continues to grow.”
