A strengthening of links with Germany has been unveiled by Cornwall Airport Newquay (CAN) with the airport confirming Eurowings will be adding its fourth German destination this summer.
The Lufthansa Group’s low-cost carrier (LCC) subsidiary will commence a weekly service from the capital city airport, Berlin Tegel, on 5 May. On the same day, Eurowings’ seasonal operation begins to Germany’s largest city, Stuttgart.
Adding to the LCC’s already established service to Düsseldorf, the sector from Berlin Tegel also joins Ryanair’s link to Frankfurt Hahn.
CAN managing director Al Titterington said: “Germany is the second largest country market after the UK from our airport, and this new link provides an essential boost to the development of our route network within a proven strong market.”
Eurowings’ senior manager for network development and airport relations Ivan Oreč confirmed the new service would operate once a week on Saturdays. “We are delighted to introduce a new link between Newquay and Berlin” he added.
Since the start of CAN’s link to Frankfurt Hahn in 2016, there have been more than 300 flights between Cornwall and Germany, offering 57,000-plus seats. Services over the past two years have covered 275,000km.
