Plans are being drawn up by Delta Air Lines for celebrations next month to mark a decade of service at Heathrow while at home the carrier eyes a new partnership with Boeing over the manufacturer’s proposed new middle-of-the-market aircraft (MoM), the B797.
At Heathrow, Delta is promising more product upgrades and Airbus A330-200 service on routes to Atlanta, New York-JFK and some Detroit flights. The airline launched its inaugural services from the London airport on 30 March 2008.
Ten years on, Delta this summer will fly nine daily departures from its London hub to seven US destinations, including the only non-stop services from the UK to Portland, Oregon, and Salt Lake City, Utah.
A joint-venture partnership with Virgin Atlantic was launched in 2014 and the pair now jointly offer up to 26 daily flights from Heathrow, including nine a day between London and New York. Delta’s operations moved to Terminal 3 alongside Virgin Atlantic in 2016.
Senior vice-president Europe Middle East, Africa and India Corneel Koster said at the Business Travel Show: “We are better positioned than ever to compete effectively on critical transatlantic business routes.”
In the US, Delta says it is “actively engaged” with Boeing over the new MoM project and hopes to become launch operator. It is looking to the proposed new type as a potential replacement for its Boeing B757-200s, B757-300s and B767-300s.
