China Southern to Wutan

The ever-growing UK-Asia business market will receive another boost in May when the region’s largest carrier, China Southern Airlines, begins another new route for its home country with flights between London and Wuhan.

It will be the only non-stop flight operating from London to the central Chinese city, a strong commercial centre for its region, and will fly three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Wuhan, which once consisted of three smaller cities – Hanyang, Hankou, and Wuchang – is the capital of the Hubei province and the most settled city in central China.

Divided by the Yangtze and Han rivers and once a busy inland port, it is now spread across three main peninsulas connected by bridges.

China Southern commercial manager UK and Ireland Nick Newman said: “Adding Wuhan to our portfolio marks another important step in making parts of China beyond just Beijing and Shanghai more accessible and attractive for UK travellers.”

Based in Guangzhou, China Southern boasts the largest fleet, most developed route network and largest passenger capacity of any airline in China, operating both the A380 and B787 Dreamliner aircraft. The new route will use the Airbus 330-200.

The SkyTeam airline alliance member currently flies twice daily from Heathrow Terminal 4.
