The Virgin Hotels Group will open its first European property in Edinburgh it has been announced. Sir Richard Branson has revealed plans to ‘re-envision’ the Scottish capital’s India Buildings on Victoria Street, converting it to a 225-room hotel scheduled to open in 2020.
The property will feature multiple dining and drinking outlets – including the brand’s flagship Commons Club concept – as well as numerous meeting spaces.
"Edinburgh is such an iconic city and we’re thrilled to be able to say it will be the home of the first Virgin Hotel in the UK and across Europe,” says Branson, founder of the Virgin Group.
Edinburgh Council’s Gavin Barrie said it was a “huge coup” for the city.
Virgin Hotels Chicago opened in 2015. It will be joined by a San Francisco property in the Spring. Washington new-build was announced last November (see BTN 13 November 2017). Hotels in Nashville, Dallas, New Orleans, New York and Silicon Valley are in the pipeline, and the group is also looking at opportunities in Austin, Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, Seattle and London.
