Classic Car Show ExCel London

The date of the London Classic Car Show and its sister display Historic Motorsport International at ExCeL is not far away (15-18 February).

A notable Jaguar XJ-S Cabriolet with royal connections will be one of a record number of stunning retro cars displayed.

While the other 5,012 cabriolets created in Coventry between 1983 and 1988 were all two-seaters this one, specially built for Diana Princess of Wales, features two small rear seats for the young Princes William and Harry to ride along with their mother and bodyguard.  The V12 powered cabriolet features an individually made, and permanently fixed, rear hard top to ensure that the two Princes could not strike their heads on the solid targa roof bar in the event of an accident.

“The London Classic Car Show is littered with cars boasting their own remarkable histories,” said Bas Bungish, event director. “There are F1 single-seaters raced in period by world champions such as Graham Hill and Michael Schumacher and getaway cars involved in staking out The Great Train Robbery.

The Grand Avenue has played host to a wide variety of themes since the show’s inception.  For 2018 the focus is “Specials”, those unique beasts always steeped in history and mystique owing to their unique designs and often outlandish performance.  Some 60 vehicles are promised.
