Israel’s flag carrier El Al is to continue its expansion into North America, but will drop its low-cost brand Up after four years of service to five European destinations. Up never served the UK.
Instead El Al is introducing a new pricing model for Economy Class tickets to all European destinations. Passengers will be offered three types of options at different price levels: Lite, Classic and Flex – all price levels include one carry-on bag and food and beverages but Classic also includes one checked in baggage and Flex includes two-checked in bags with expanded seating options.
El Al has also unveiled plans to launch a three times weekly non-stop Tel Aviv – San Francisco service starting from the fourth quarter of 2018. It becomes the airline’s sixth North American destination alongside Boston, New York (JFK and Newark), Los Angeles, Miami and Toronto. The new route is part of the airline’s plans to expand as more of the seven Boeing 787-9 it has on order arrive. So far two have been delivered.
