Heathrow consultation

A ten-week public consultation has opened to shape Heathrow’s future and how it will serve local communities and the UK economy.  It comes ahead of a Parliamentary vote in the first half of 2018 on a National Policy Statement regarding Heathrow.

Responses are needed by 28 March at any of the 40 consultation events held locally or via email/post.  Views heard in Heathrow’s consultation will help to shape the airport’s proposals, which will then be subject to a second public consultation next year.

Over the past year, Heathrow has been working alongside local stakeholders and airline partners to evolve the plans it submitted to the Airports Commission including an option to deliver an expanded hub airport for £2.5bn less than previous plans, helping to make sure airport charges stay close to today’s levels.

The consultation comprises two parts – the first relates to the physical changes to the ground needed to build a new north-west runway and operate an expanded airport.  There are three shortlisted options for the new north-west runway with length varying from between 3,200m and 3,500m, three terminal ideas and a proposed realignment of the M25.

The second part of the consultation relates to airspace requirements for the expanded airport.

Heathrow says it is on schedule for a 2025 opening of the new runway.

No amount of consultation can disguise the fact that expansion at Heathrow is such a bad idea. Air congestion, local ground congestion, the M25 turned into car park, pollution, wholesale destruction of the local environment...I could go on. I look forward to the Labour Party withdrawing its support, and therefore the loss of a majority in Parliament for this misguided scheme.
