Liverpool FC and Malaysia Airlines

Former Liverpool soccer stars Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler were the special guests of Malaysia Airlines at a Heathrow reception to launch their new Kuala Lumpur A350 service last week. (see also BTN 15 January - Malaysia invests in Australia)

The two goal scoring aces said that they had not properly recovered from the game the evening before, against Manchester City.  And they had not even played in the 4-3 Liverpool win.   Liverpool is half way through a three-year shirt sponsorship deal with the national airline of the soccer mad country.

Airline veteran and chief executive Captain Izham Ismail said that there had been a change of policy by Malaysia Airlines and whilst the smaller brand-new A350 would be used on the London – Kuala Lumpur route, the super jumbo would be brought back for certain flights in busy periods.  It would seem that there being no second-hand market for the aircraft, and with the leases coming to an end, more attractive finance terms can be extracted by the airline.

Malaysia plans to use the A380's on high density and pilgrimage routes plus charters.

With the delivery of further aircraft, the twice daily service will be all A350 from 6 March.  UK Manager Richard de Villa said a code-share with fellow oneworld carrier BA, who serve route daily, was being discussed.
