Principal joins the parade

Joining the Doyle Collection’s new Bloomsbury hotel (see this issue), the latest addition to the Principal Collection of properties based in landmark buildings in top locations will also open in early 2018  in Russell Square.

The group says the unveiling of the 334-room Principal London will transform the former Hotel Russell, a Grade II*-listed structure and “restore a glamorous grande dame to its original glory”.

The Frederick Hotels Company opened the building in 1898 with a mission to offer “a home to glamour and indulgence”. Principal says the new hotel will offer contemporary interior designs while paying homage to the building’s history.

The company says all 334 guest rooms and suites have been designed by Tara Bernerd & Partners to provide a sense of modern indulgence and comfort while artwork and accessories will acknowledge Bloomsbury’s literary and artistic heritage.

The Principal London follows recent openings by the upmarket urban-lifestyle group in Edinburgh, Manchester and York. The collection also includes hotels in Cardiff, Glasgow, Leeds and Oxford, with plans to open in Birmingham and Liverpool.
