Aer Lingus growth record

More details of new developments at Aer Lingus were announced last week as the airline celebrated future growth plans in its transatlantic network and more connections with UK services (BTN 30 October).

The carrier says as a result of record growth in services to North America, it has created 600 new jobs, with a recruitment drive to hire 200 pilots over the next three years drawing almost 3,000 applications for the first wave of 100 positions.

The fleet will also expand significantly over the next five years with the acquisition of Airbus A321Neo long-range (LR) aircraft from 2019, opening new markets and enabling a new growth phase.

Strengthening the Dublin Airport base as a major European transatlantic gateway is a primary focus for the airline, delivering increased connectivity for Ireland which supports international trade and economic development.

From its newest US destination, Seattle, Aer Lingus says it will offer 24 seamless connections via Dublin to UK and European cities such as London, Paris, Rome, Brussels, Amsterdam and Frankfurt.

Outlining the programme, CEO Stephen Kavanagh said short-haul enhancements would also continue. He added: “This schedule highlights our commitment to the UK, serving 25 routes including the key cities.”
