More expansion for Qatar

Continued expansion in Europe and Russia, including an increase in daily frequencies to Stockholm and Oslo alongside Milan and Rome, was announced last week by Qatar Airways.

The carrier said an increase in demand to key European destinations, especially from the Asia Pacific region, was behind the move. Flights between Doha and Rome, Milan and Stockholm will increase to 17 a week and flights to Oslo from seven to 10 a week.

The airline says its double-daily flights to Moscow will increase to three times daily from 14 December, five days before its inaugural daily flight to St Petersburg. The additional Moscow frequency will be operated by Airbus A320.

The carrier currently has double-daily flights to Moscow Domodedovo, Stockholm Arlanda, Milan Malpensa and Rome Fiumicino with a mix of Boeing B787, Airbus A330 and Airbus A321 aircraft.

Qatar Airways also recently strengthened its commitment to Italy with the acquisition of 49% of AQA Holding, the new parent company of Meridiana fly (Meridiana), while the previous sole shareholder Alisarda has kept 51%.

In addition to the frequency increases to Moscow, Stockholm, Oslo, Rome and Milan, the airline has also announced additional daily non-stop flights to Kiev (Kyiv), Prague, Warsaw and Helsinki, also after “a significant increase” in demand.
